BUILDING CONTROL / TENDER
D Patel Architects were approached to work on the exciting renovation of Barsby Lodge located in Isle of Wight. The property is situated on the hill slopes of Ryde, built in 1857 and consists of 8 bedrooms over 4 floors. The proposal was to enhance the existing internal space to assist its adaptability in meeting the needs of a young family. Externally, the aim was to modernise and reconfigure the ground floor extension. The concept was based on a ribbon structure which aimed to tie together the open and covered elements of the verandah; creating a coherent addition, which was sympathetic to the existing building.Although the building was not within a conservation area, the council had concerns over the proposed external re configuration. We worked through detail options to help ensure the proposed materiality and detail junctions complemented the existing materials, which successfully addressed the council’s concerns.
